Monolithic vs. Floating Slabs

Depending on the building and the load, we pour monolithic slabs (the floor and its thickened footing edge poured as one) or floating slabs over a prepared base. We’ll recommend the right approach for your project, the soil, and what the building inspector or your builder requires.

What Goes Into a Slab That Lasts

• Compacted sub-grade and gravel base — uniform bearing so the slab doesn’t settle unevenly in clay soil
• Vapor barrier — a poly sheet under conditioned-space slabs to keep ground moisture out
• Reinforcement — wire mesh or rebar on chairs, sized to the load and thickness
• Thickened edges & footings — extra depth where walls and posts land
• Anchor bolts & embeds — set to your building’s layout while the concrete is wet
• Control & construction joints — placed to manage cracking on large pours

We Coordinate With Your Builder

Most slabs are one piece of a bigger project. We work with your GC, building supplier, or metal-building crew on timing, elevations, anchor-bolt templates, and rough-in so the slab is ready and correct when the walls go up. No finger-pointing between trades.
